The West Bank Karate Club is a traditional dojo which promotes the tenets of the founder of Shotokan Karate, Gichin Funakoshi. Those tenets are: seek perfection of character, endeavor to excel, be honest and forthright, respect others and develop self control.

As a non-contact style, Shotokan is a perfect martial art for individuals interested in traditional training without suffering injury. Our new facility, the Movement Arts Center, is designed and built to meet all martial arts needs. The training floor is a unique 'floating system' of maple hardwood that allows maximum resilience with minimum impact to the joints. The Center is 3,800 square feet equiped with heavy bags and makiwara boards, men's and women's dressing rooms complete with showers and lockers. All club members are encouraged to use the facility for self training whenever there is open floor time.

The WBKC is an affiliate dojo of the International Traditional Karate Federation and the American Amateur Karate Federation. We welcome all Shotokan Karateka to visit and train with us regardless of previous background or affiliation.

Karate-do: empty hand way

Shotokan is a traditional Japanese system of self defense, physical fitness, and mental well being. Balance, breath control, stamina, power and speed are elements that are taught in every karate lesson, from beginners to black belt levels. Adult Karate classes meet Monday through Saturday and appeal to individuals who are looking for an activity that is challenging both physically and mentally. Regardless of what your goals might be; get in shape, earn a black belt, meet new friends, or learn self defense, the West Bank Karate Club will provide for your needs. Children ages 6 through 10 years train together in seperate classes with age appropriate instruction. We welcome visitors to stop in and observe a class anytime. Call 612-333-8635 for directions and/or more information.

Associate Instructors assist with teaching responsibilities when Sensei Chenault is traveling or conducting seminars throughout the Twin Cities.
